Stoke 0-0 Liverpool

Stoke City earned a deserved point against Liverpool as the Premier League leaders produced a lifeless performance at the Britannia Stadium.
Rory Delap came closest to breaking the deadlock for Stoke early on when he rattled the bar from close range - and Liverpool could have had no complaints if Tony Pulis' side had claimed all three points.

But captain Steven Gerrard almost snatched the win Liverpool's display barely merited when he angled a free-kick against the bar with six minutes left, then struck a post in stoppage time.

Liverpool never exerted any serious dominance over Stoke, failing to increase the pressure on Manchester United and Chelsea ahead of their meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The game was played out in front of a typically vibrant atmosphere - and in front of Argentina coach Diego Maradona, who was a guest of honour at the Britannia Stadium who was no doubt keeping an eye on Liverpool's Javier Mascherano

England meeting replaces training

England cancelled their practice ahead of the fifth one-dayer against India in Cuttack in favour of a team meeting as they look to salvage some pride.

Having lost the first four of the seven-match series, coach Peter Moores and captain Kevin Pietersen opted not to train at the Barabati Stadium.
"We thought it'd be better to go over and identify areas that have not gone right," explained batsman Owais Shah.

The decision followed a management meeting involving Moores, Pietersen, senior players Paul Collingwood and Andrew Flintoff and the backroom staff at the team hotel in Bhubaneshwar on Monday.
It was decided a change of routine would be better for the squad as they try to find a winning formula and end India's run of successive wins.

"Everyone feels they are hitting the ball OK and the bowlers feel all right," added Shah. "I think the guys thought we would get more out of discussing particular aspects of where we've gone wrong and try and put them right.

"Sport at this level is more mental than anything you do in the field so we feel if we can make the mental adjustments it should put us in a better frame of mind to go and perform.

"We need to get hundreds. Whoever gets in on the day has to be the man to kick on."

Arsenal through after late strike

Nicklas Bendtner's late strike eased Arsenal's troubles and sent them into the Champions League knockout phase.

Bendtner struck three minutes from time from new captain Cesc Fabregas's pass.
Olexandr Aliyev was sent off seconds later as Dynamo Kiev protested that Fabregas had reacted to a drop ball before they were ready.

William Gallas returned to the Arsenal side after being stripped of the captaincy for publicly criticising his team-mates, and he was always in the action in a game which was closely fought throughout.
Arsenal missed the pace of Theo Walcott and the power of Emmanuel Adebayor but battled manfully, and Bendtner's goal was a deserved reward and will act as a real morale-booster for Arsene Wenger's side.
Gallas was warmly received by Arsenal fans after his recent trauma - and he had an eventful return to first-team action.

Arsenal threatened the early breakthrough, with Robin van Persie seeing an in-swinging free-kick pushed away by Dynamo keeper Stanislav Bogush.
